Our December 2017 Favorites

Happy New Year Brilliant Beauties! December was a good month for us, and we hope you can say the same. The opportunity to reconnect with family and re-energize the direction of our blog was much needed!

Our goal is to help you live a brilliant lifestyle, so we’re starting a new blog series to share our monthly favorites – including entertainment, beauty and other random products / services.

Keep reading to see what we loved most last month!

TR: Fenty Beauty – Match Stix Matte Skinstick: A good concealer is one of my favorite makeup essentials, and Rihanna’s product did not disappoint. It has a smooth consistency so it rolls on easily, plus gives great coverage to get rid of the darkness around my eyes.

MM: Fenty Beauty – Killawatt Highlighter in “Trophy Wife”: When Rih Rih busted on the scene with Fenty, I counted Trophy Wife out for me immediately. I shoot for subtle glow when it comes to highlighting and I just knew the super yellow-golden-greenish shade would be #teamtoomuch for me. HOWEVER, I stand corrected and this is just a testament of why you should should try things for yourself and not be completely swayed by reviews. I wear it as a highlighter but wearing it as an eyeshadow is my absolute favorite.

MM: Fenty Beauty – Stunna Lip Paint in “Uncensored”: As a red lip connoisseur, this surprise release was the perfect Christmas lippie. It literally looks good on every skin tone even without a lip liner.  She’s done it again!

MM: Herb ‘n Eden 100% Natural Soaps: I’ve been making  a conscious effort for a while to transition my body care products to those that are as close to natural as possible. And I wanted to help those I love do the same so these all natural, handmade soaps made amazing gifts and the ones I kept for myself have not disappointed!

TR: Before They Were Yours x Lisa Wingate: This heartbreaking yet powerful novel had me hooked from the beginning. It sheds light on a true story, where the director of the Tennessee Child Home Society kidnapped poor children and sold them to wealthy families who couldn’t conceive. There are two point of views in the book – one from the main character, who was taken from her parents and separated from her four younger siblings through adoption. The other point of view is from her niece, who is unaware of her family’s dark past and on a quest to figure out what happened to avoid ruining their political reputation.

TR: She’s Gotta Have it On Netflix: Spike Lee’s remake of his 1986 classic did not disappoint. Personally I live a more conservative life than the main character, Ms. Nola Darling, who openly and unapologetically juggles three men and a woman. Despite our differences, I loved how artistic the show was and how it delved on relevant topics, such as women’s rights, freedom, our roles in society, gentrification and more.

TR: Miguel – “War & Leisure” Album: I’ve always been a Miguel fan, but if I’m being honest, his last album “Wildheart” didn’t thrill me. But he’s back and better than ever with “War & Leisure,” which has his current single and my 2018 anthem “Sky Walker.” I love all 12 tracks, but some of my favorites include: “Banana Clip,” “Pineapple Skies,” and “Come Through and Chill” featuring my favorite rapper, J.Cole.

MM: eBags Packing Cubes: I did lots of traveling in December and an important aspect that makes travel as enjoyable as possible for me is being organized. Everything has to have a place especially when I’m traveling because I’d hate to forget anything while I’m away from home. These cubes make not only travel but my stay a breeze, they’re super durable and are a jet-setter must-have that you won’t regret investing in!

TR: Air Diffuser: When I got my first air diffuser, I wondered why I was so late to the party. This product is absolutely amazing! All you need is water and a few drops of 100% essential oils (such as lavender, patchouli or rosemary) and your space will smell incredible. The aromatherapy also improved the quality of my sleep and overall peace. The air diffuser gives my bedroom positive vibes, so I was hype when I got another one for Christmas to go in my office.

MM: Izzy & Liv “Brown Sugar” Monthly Subscription Box: Subscription boxes are pretty lit…but the Brown Sugar Box has been giving me life since I enrolled in August 2017. You get an Izzy & Liv tank or tee and 5-6 full size products every month…no samples! And you’ll also receive bonus items from other black woman-owned businesses. The Brown Sugar Box is a favorite not only because they send things I absolutely LOVE…but because the things they send I may also love for other people in my life so they contributed significantly to my gift arsenal for the holiday season.
